Either I am a raving, angry, lunatic activist
Who is insane enough to be
UN-ashamed and UN-apologetic as I
Demand civil marriage equality...

               - OR -

I am a man who simply KNOWS
I deserve equality. I AM equal.
You may not think so, but I know it.

Be adults. I cannot hold all of your hands as you
Grapple with your phobias, fears, and obsessions.

We exist.

Deal.

You cannot *except* that there are reasonable people who have studied the issue and agree with proposition 8.

Sorry, accept, not except.

There you go again, Profe -- yesterday, we were all liars, today we're all homophobes. It's another emotional appeal couched in pseudo intellectual rhetoric to attempt to give it some logical gravitas. You are exposing the very narrow-mindedness you accuse proponents of having. You cannot except that there are reasonable people who have studied the issue and agree with proposition 8. You cannot defeat their arguments with real arguments of your own, so you call them names. It reminds me of my 6 year old son who can only win an argument by calling me a poo-poo head.

"...they would no longer enjoy the equal rights they now share with heterosexual couples, namely, the ability to marry in civil ceremonies, have that marriage recognized by civil authorities, and enjoy the public recognition and benefit of being married."

I see you are at least attempting to answer my question about what rights same-sex couples will be losing. However, they will still be able to enjoy their civil ceremonies and have their unions recognized by civil authorities. Again, the only right they will be missing out on is the right to call their union "marriage."

"When your vision includes having to dictate “morality” for other people rather than protect their freedom to decide for themselves what is “moral,” then history shows your vision will, eventually, be dismantled."

Yes! That is my point exactly! The gay community, through the courts, is trying to dictate "morality" for other people rather than protect their freedom to decide for themselves. That is why real civil rights -- the freedom of speech and religion -- are in jeopardy if proposition 8 doesn't pass.
